Abstract:

In the context of higher education, student mobility and the spread of intercultural programs are continuously increasing. However, conflicts in Europe and the Middle East generate uncertainties and push communities to close in on themselves, causing forms of rejection towards international projects and questioning the effectiveness of intercultural training. At the same time, the attention given by educational institutions to inclusion and diversity seems to overshadow interculturality, raising questions about the differences and similarities between these concepts and why inclusion and diversity are gaining more relevance.

To offer an answer, it is first necessary to understand the essence of interculturality, frequently reduced to the management of cultural differences or simple lists of stereotypes to avoid. In the academic field, as highlighted by Martine Abdallah-Pretceille, interculturality is a fundamental construct, connected to dynamics of otherness, decentering, and plurality. Our project aims to verify whether interculturality represents a passing trend or, on the contrary, a key element for education and training. Despite its complexity, interculturality includes constants such as the Other, cultural difference, and plurality, and requires specific skills that still do not receive full recognition.

To this end, the project involves an analysis of intercultural terminology in academic and popular texts, accompanied by a qualitative survey conducted among international students and operators, aimed at identifying the invariables of interculturality. From a didactic perspective, short multilingual videos will be created for use as a training resource. The ultimate goal is to overcome the monolithic vision of the Other, restoring a more articulated dimension and thus contributing to the formation of responsible citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.

Obiettivi:

The general objective of ICARET is to promote more inclusive educational systems based on intercultural approaches. From this perspective, the project aims to achieve two specific goals. On one hand, it intends to conduct an in-depth analysis of intercultural issues related to student mobility, with the aim of improving the quality of students' educational experience; this involves analyzing written and oral texts related to interculturality. On the other hand, it aims to design intercultural training and educational tools, conceived to be adapted to different contexts, in order to respond to the diverse needs found in various educational environments.

Piano delle attività:

Within three specific work packages, the project includes six main activities. First, relevant data will be collected, followed by an in-depth analysis of the acquired material. In parallel, personal data will be collected and analyzed to obtain a more detailed view of individual dynamics. Once this preliminary phase is completed, the design of educational videos will begin, which will then be developed and tested to verify their effectiveness and suitability for the reference contexts. Finally, the project results will be disseminated both through digital channels (website and social media) and in academic and scientific contexts, such as conferences and publications.
